About the artist
Michael McRuiz is an artist/photographer based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he is an Assistant Professor of Digital Media at Tulsa Community College. He studied painting at the University of Tulsa, earning BFA and MA degrees.
The human desire to form connections with the infinite through nature is the unifying theme in McRuiz’s work. This is manifest in the use of images of flowers, landscapes, Anasazi petroglyphs, the use of ethereal lighting and sensual forms and hues.
All the works are color digital photographs that have been edited with Adobe Photoshop and other image editing software applications.
His floral images focus on close-up views of single blossoms placed before various backgrounds, much like portraiture, and enlarged to human proportions.
Recent portfolios consists of landscapes of Iceland, Alaska, and the Pacific Northwest. Some images in the portfolios are composites made of two or more separate photographs merged into one and depict scenery that does not exist in the natural world.
